“The perfect ending to a perfect crime,” Michael Gross sings on Let’s Become Actors’ new full-length, perhaps referring to his and band mate Dave Chisholm’s split from The Brobecks. Or not. It’s no secret the group’s break-up was somewhat tense, but the “perfect ending” turned into quite a lovely beginning for this promising Salt Lake City quartet. Gross, Chisholm, Ben Johnson and Matthew Glass (who also shoots much of the band’s killer photos) produce lush, shimmering pop with teeth. Each well-crafted gem has an uneasy bite to it—as if the seemingly clean-cut gents harbor a serious dark side beneath the sheen
